At least 19 homes and business units were burgled on an average everyday in the city in the past one year, if one goes by the data placed before the state Assembly on Friday. Of these, Satellite and Vastrapur police stations reported the maximum number of burglaries among the total 35 police stations, being in the wealthier part of the city.

Replying to Kalupur MLA Mohammed Farooq Shaikh’s question on the crimes in the past year, the state home department said there were 7,034 thefts and burglaries, 844 loots and 18 cases of dacoity apart from 83 cases of murder and 56 rapes. Of these, nine police stations in west Ahmedabad alone accounted for 57 per cent of the property crimes at 3,990 burglaries.
