The highest ranking police officer in the country has roused fears that domestic organised crime could soon be turning to cyber warfare, as a means of making their income. According to a piece in the Sunday Telegraph, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Paul Stephenson has said the large rewards and relatively low hazards of cybercrime would be of appeal to Britain's gangs. The comments come in the light of the Comprehensive Spending Review, due to be consulted upon by the UK government. In the newspaper report Sir Paul urged the importance of tech-savvy specialist officers, who can address the needs of defending the country against cybercrime. He said: 'There are disturbing signs that 'traditional' British organised crime is waking up to the profits and uses of e-crime.' Sir Paul also said there is a risk that in coming years, cyber crime could become a UK gang's main source of plunder.
